Tea In Bangladesh
Tea is the second main export oriented cash crop of Bangladesh. Tea is mostly cultivated in the hill tracks of northeast portion of Bangladesh. Moderate height and slope of the hill tracks as well as heavy rain fall make this area suitable for production of premium quality tea in Bangladesh. Besides, a considerable quantity of tea is cultivated in the hill tracks of northwest and southeast portion of Bangladesh. Presently 53 million kg (On average) of tea is being produced in 115,820.33 hectare of land under 163 tea estates. Tea sector contributes about 1% of the total GDP in Bangladesh. This sector occupies approximately 0.2 million people directly and indirectly which is about 4.4% of the country's total employment.

The term CTC tea stands for crush, tear and curl tea. There are three main categories of CTC tea available in Bangladesh, commonly known as broken tea, fanning tea and dust tea. The grades of broken tea are FP tea or flowery pekoe tea, FBOP tea or flowery broken orange pekoe tea, BOP tea or broken orange pekoe tea and GBOP tea or golden orange broken pekoe tea, grades of fanning tea are known as OF tea or orange fanning tea, FOF tea or flowery orange fanning tea, PF tea or pekoe fanning tea and dust tea are RD tea or red dust tea, PD tea or pekoe dust tea and CD tea or churamoni dust tea.
